11. THE HELL OF THE BYES

Welcome back, dear reader, to that hell of the bye weeks, where every weekend has had its content reduced and broadcast schedules slashed.

All footy games must go!

Personally speaking, the better approach to scheduling byes would be to run a 9 week block where 8 games are played each weekend, leaving 2 clubs each to have a break.
This can be cycled between weeks 9 to 17 (for example), and allows all clubs to get that refresher that players want.

The bonus for the AFL is that you don't expose the competition to days without footy, or less footy, that then generates openings for soccer or rugby codes to enter the media scape.

This of course assumes the AFL would want to dominate and crush kill destroy all competition.
Of course they don't!

North Melbourne get the tip against Sydney, but the old HGA has a lot to say here. Could go any way this game, depending on which North (Norf) turns up. And which Sydney too... well they did lose to the Bulldogs after all.

Melbourne and St Kilda also a close tip. Melbourne have been bad at Docklands, and have the longest active win-less streak at a venue in the AFL - 20 games and counting.
They should be able to halt this record, but the Saints are showing a much better form record (+32) which indicates this could be their game.

Finally, the Port Adelaide and Geelong from indicators also suggest an upset result (-43 and +26), as too the Collingwood and GWS numbers (+17 and +53).

Another tough week for tipsters?
