No the ongoing public relations gaffe (or series thereof) that emanate out of the Docklands HQ on an almost daily basis.
In fact it is now approaching a World Cup benchmark time scale.
"The World Cup only lasts for 4 weeks so (justifies very badly some poorly thought through policy)"
Sack your spinners, and then yourself.
Here, sourced from the Rebecca Hayne blog, are three "well worth your time reading posts on just how badly they are managing their message and their 'product'.
For reasons best known to them, Gil McLachlan chose this to float an off broadway thought bubble than “dead games” could be used to trial some of these exciting new rules (a fast goal square! AMAZING!) in the middle of one of the biggest weeks of the season was an awful piece of communication.
But something has happened along the way (to building and growing the AFLW), and it ties back to reputation management we’ve covered a lot of this leagues travails along the way. The lack of care and attention to the All Stars game, the missed merchandising opportunities, the accursed memo, the lighting budget, Kane Cornes hosting a show on Womens Footy, Bec Goddard leaving the sport…
Each individual action has chipped away at the reputation of AFLW – through no fault of the players at all. While the league has been happy to take kudos for the social capital of the league, they have mis-managed the day-to-day running of the league to an appalling degree.
The Wash Up
Survival weekend. When most games looked so close on paper (not that the League told you), then getting a decent 7 was like getting a 9, only not.
Thoroughly decent MAE as well this week of 22.2, well under the season running average. Nice.
Also the Monash points are coming in thick and fast now in charateristic late season FMI fashion. Would be 5th.
Look at the Rankings!
Hello Dees! Now the second best team in the AFL. Well, leading a very tightly packed 'peloton' that extends from 2nd down to 7th anyway.
No real joy at the foot of the table too, with all bar one of the bottom 6 gaining any ground.
The Week Ahead
Another interesting round of footy coming, with some close ones to keep you entertained.
A few games that 'must be won' by a few teams to cement credibility.
